Authentically Magical? A Tea to find your own spiritual path and a naturally powerful skin care

4–6 minutes

The plants you need grow around your house and garden – so an ancestral spiritual belief which appears particularly true when it comes to the herbs that restore our purity such as Mint or Elderflower.

Sambucus Nigra’s growth more often than not wasn’t left to chance. The plant was purposefully cultivated as a protector of house and family, the first bathing water of a baby poured underneath the Elderflower bushes to indicate the arrival of new life on earth, a new member of the family to be protected.

Elderflower brings very worldly benefits to our health which surely is a reason for its unbroken usage in our society. The flowers can be prepared as a tea or cordial to strengthen our immune system, remedy sinusitis or cough, support our kidneys and bladder. Furthermore, Sambucus Nigra can be applied externally to improve various skin problems such as rashes. A naturally powerful skin care product.

Two simple recipes using Elderflower:

Elderflower Tea is easily prepared using a handful of fresh or two teaspoons of dried Elderflower. Left to steep for 10min, you can add some drops of fresh lemon or honey until the flavour suits your taste just right. Additionally, you can use the tea on your skin as a remedy to various issues or simply as a natural skin care.

Elderflower Cordial feels much more popular but is a traditional classic just as much as the tea. Soak the flowers in a mix of water, sugar and lemon for two to three days and sieve it into a bottle or jar for you to use in refreshing and calming variations of your drinks, teas or simply add a bit of cordial to your glass of sparkling water.

Some Ancestral applications of Elderflower

Elderflower is a plant that was believed to protect our home from fires and lightning. A plant inviting in good spirits, removing anything malicious and protecting the family from misfortune and outsiders with bad intentions, black magic or feelings of envy. Not merely outside envy is banished but Elderflower is also enlightening us from our insight when the self, family members, neighbours or friends became inner victims to envy or resentment, purifying our close relationships. It was celebrated by ancient cultures, a plant later on associated with Mother Mary and a healing plant applied to remedy colds and issues with our skin. A remedy to our emotional world for many centuries of loss and hardship.

Elderflower is growing all around my own and neighbours garden, providing me with a strong healing plant to draw inspiration, minerals and vitamins from. In the beginning it whispered “I am here to help you overcome your feelings of sin and all the personal losses you can’t stop grieving.”

Death is a part of our life, just as the arrival of new life to be born. From my perspective, the acceptance of the natural circle of life and its organic flow, which does encompass goodbyes and losses for all of us, is one of the most spiritual lessons to learn. Never trust a source that speaks of eternal life and polishes everything through rebirth, karma and past lifetimes. Let’s not forget our ancient order of an experience mixed with fairies, eleves, magical perception and appreciation of nature, a celebration of life and death. Our modern society has rightfully relieved us from the scarcity of uncontrollable forces of black magic and evil spirit entering our homes in superstition, scapegoating the people of magical healing, the outsiders and those who simply seemed and were different.

Initially, when I desired the start a blog by the name “sos spirituality”, my aim was to create a platform for people on a spiritual journey to “accidentally” find when they got lost in the manifold weirdly ancient stories of fear, grandeur and illusion that seem nowadays so widely spread among spiritual circles. My experiences had made me protective of those I witnessed going to psychiatries and my anger was relentless towards those teachers that were only hoarding their money without caring for the damages they’ve done to those following them. I hope you agree that our blog turned out to become much more than that.

True to the title of this article, also we have decided to slightly amend our spiritual path and rename our blog to something that now feels more authentic to who we have become. Moving forward you’ll read from us as “sown & uprooted. “Sown” stands for the seeds we plant along our own path, literally in our garden or on our balcony, in the form of herbs, fruits or vegetables, but also metaphorically speaking, it represents the life into which we have been sown and the seeds we desire to plant in the form of our intentions. “Uprooted” symbolises the uprooting of unhealthy roots, our outworn beliefs and ways of being, just as much as the literal uprooting of the healing herbs, weeds or vegetables that we have grown or foraged.

Sambucus Nigra is a plant that formed an important part during worship, a healer of loss but a bringer of insight, if you let it, a union maker – a plant of true spirituality that has all the power to help you discover your own truthful and authentic spiritual path.

Please note: As with all things in life, some things will have ripple effects and the amounts make the difference. So please don’t overdose herbal teas either. Especially if you are on medication, suffer a medical condition, are prone to allergic reactions and during pregnancy it’s recommended to seek medical advisory before starting any self medication.
