If you belong to those who occasionally wake up with puffy eyes, horribly sad big bags under your eyes: I feel you! Welcome to the ugly mornings club!
It’s like a waking up nightmare after a peaceful rest. Maybe it was the glass of wine last night? Possibly salty food? Potentially the reason stays in the dark: you wake up with intimidatingly visible bags under the eyes. In my 40s, I can tell you, such mornings don’t get any prettier with aging.
Years ago, I remember when my friend and co-writer Corina looked at me with my horribly puffy eyes, saying “I am sorry for you!” Me too…
Years later, I am glad to share my quickly homemade SOS Puffy Eyes Serum with you. It has become my rapid fix, my go to remedy for those occasionally nightmarish puffy eyes and I hope it will work for you just as well! Alongside the recipe, I’ll add a few notes on how to apply the SOS serum in a way to reduce the bags under your eyes even further, so you can feel like the pretty, normal you, especially on days when you don’t want to wonder about your looks too much.
The secret ingredient is actually extremely common! I love a coffee in the morning and if you do too, you will easy have access to the magical under-eyes bag remedy: caffeine! Caffeine makes our blood vessels constrict which tightens the skin, reduces swelling under the eyes and brightens dark circles.
SOS Puffy Eyes Serum
- Brew a coffee, I use any kind of espresso machine type of brew
- Brew a Green Tea Leaves infusion, simply use approx 1 teaspoon of green tea leaves and just enough water to cover them
- Leave the green tea to steep for roundabout 3 min
- Let the coffee and green tea cool down
- Prepare a small cup, bottle or other container
- For the SOS Puffy Eyes Serum Mix: 1 teaspoon of coffee, 1 teaspoon of green tea infusion and some drops of Sweet Almond Oil, approx 1/2 teaspoon
- Application: using your ring finger, gently apply the serum by tapping it onto the bags under your eyes, moving the finger from the nose towards your temple. Repeat the tapping process from the nose to the temple a few times.
- Keep the leftovers, ideally covered, in the fridge for the next few days to use whenever needed 🙂
You can replace the sweet almond oil with any other carrier oil, like jojoba oil or a bit of olive oil, it is added to make the skin feel smooth and hydrated. Overusing caffeine topically can dry out the skin, so it’s recommendable to add some nourishment.
We’d love to hear from you in the comments! Share your thoughts or your own experiences 🙂
-with love-
